Remakes seem to be the order of the day. After, the super success that Agneepath has achieved and the buzz that the Zanjeer remake has been generating, that of the 1983 blockbuster, Himmatwala starring Jeetendra and Sridevi, will be remade with Ajay Devgn in the lead.
Even before the film has gone on floors, it has already generated a lot of curiosity among the industry folk. A trade pundit was quoted as saying, "The presence of Ajay Devgn – whose films have grossed over Rs 100 crores at the box office (Singham and Golmaal 3), Sajid Khan – who is basking in the glory of Housefull 2, and a prestigious banner like UTV, with producer Vashu Bhagnani backing the project, Himmatwala is currently the most talked about film in the business."
Director Sajid Khan joked that like Jeetendra, Devgn will not be donning white in this film. He added that he had watched this blockbuster well over 35 times. Also, he does not plan to 'remake' the film, but to 'retell' it, keeping the sensibilities of today's audiences in mind. He, along with his dialogue writer Sajid Farhad is making sure that they add more drama, humor and action into the Devgn starrer.
Although the remake would be very different from the original, Khan has decided to retain the two chartbusters of the 80s, Naino Mein Sapna and Taki O Taki, which will be choreographed by Farah Khan. The music of Himmatwala will be composed by the talented duo Sajid-Wajid. The film will go on floors in August this year, and is expected to release in 2013.
