That Ram Gopal Varma is a maverick director is known by everyone in the industry. However, this time, the Satya director even managed to unnerve the usually unflappable Amitabh Bachchan while shooting for upcoming cop drama Department.
Sources claim that while shooting, Varma employed what is known as the 'rogue' style of film-making, viz. roping in six students of still photography and visual effects to shoot the movie. Moreover, the film team did not have heads of departments like editing, camera or art and Varma says that Big B was quite perturbed by this style of film-making. The director also reportedly had to prepare Amitabh to shoot without a proper camera.
Ramu, as he is known in the industry, was quoted saying, "Amitabh has been used to facing the camera. When I said there would be no camera, he was a little perturbed and disoriented, but he caught up on it later. It freed Amitabh of his constraints. It also changed his performance tone."
Starring Sanjay Dutt and Rana Daggubati along with Amitabh Bachchan, Department revolves around a special police unit formed to curb the city underworld.
