Cech lauds Chelsea's big-game experience ahead of Newcastle clash

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech believes that the Blues have the advantage over Newcastle United in the race for a top-four finish, citing Alan Pardew’s side’s inexperience when it comes to high-pressure encounters.

Roberto Di Matteo's charges have been in excellent form in recent times, reaching both the Champions League and FA Cup finals, whilst improvements in the Premier League has also put them into top-four contention after early-season difficulties under former boss Andre Villas-Boas.

And Cech believes that his team’s superior experience will prove key when the Magpies arrive at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

"I think our greater experience will be really important on Wednesday because Newcastle are in a position they haven't been in for a long time, only once maybe, and we have been there many times," Cech told reporters.

"It could be the decisive factor but they and we have everything to play for. It will be an exciting game but our experience will help."

Chelsea, will not need to finish inside the top four to be in next season's Champions League if they beat Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in next month’s Champions League final.

However, Cech insists that his side want to finish as high as possible in the Premier League and to secure their place at European football's top table before May 19.

Cech continued: "We want to go to Munich and have the sense that the job is done and we can then easily concentrate only on the final.

"That would be the ideal scenario but we still have to fight for that to happen.

"We enjoyed the win over QPR because we scored six goals, it makes for a good goal difference, which could be important.

"We have a few games where we need to win.

"We are playing so many games with the pressure but on the other hand we will be ready to play another game with the pressure.

"You can never predict what is going to happen on May 19 but, hopefully, it will be a day to remember."
