Chapman To slams Deric Wang's unpatriotic remarks

7 Nov – Chapman To was recently involved in an online war with former TVB artist Deric Wan.

As reported on Wenweipo website, the conflict began when Deric, who moved to mainland China to further his acting career, declared on Weibo his love for China – a statement that was slammed by many due to the political strain between Hong Kong and mainland China.

Among those who were enraged with Deric include Chapman, who was earlier annoyed by Deric's jokes on Weibo.

Prior to the declaration of love for China, Deric uploaded an old photo of his father, and wrote, "A lot of people said that my father and Chapman look alike. Maybe my dad and his ... Ha ha", jokingly hinting that Chapman's mother and his father may have gotten together, only to receive an angry reply from Chapman who replied with profanity and said, "If you make a joke at the expense of my mother again, I will beat you up!"

In regards to Deric's China-loving statement, Chapman wrote, "There is no equality when it comes to occupations, but it is for character! You betray yourself just to make ends meet. But one should always remember one's roots before saying things that hurt the feelings of more than 7 million people."

He added that though there is nothing wrong about earning money in the country, there is no need for a Hong Kong man to be patriotic about the Communist Party.

Saying that he is embarrassed to appear in the same news with Deric, Chapman wrote, "It's all the matter of demand and supply. For example, yesterday, I was filming in Japan. Tomorrow I'll be going to Hangzhou to film a Chinese film. I have these opportunities because I am a dedicated actor, not because I'm a Communist."
