11 Sep - Gone from the public eye for six months, it has been reported that Hong Kong actor and comedian Cheung Tat Ming has been suffering from cancer, but is now on his way to recovery.
According to Jayne Stars, Cheung's last public appearance was for a comedy show earlier this year, but the 48-year-old had not appeared anywhere since. He was reportedly spotted several months ago heading for treatment at a clinic, looking frail as though he had lost plenty of weight and ill. Cheung, at the time, said that he was suffering from back problems and avoided further questions.
Celebrity good friend Anthony Wong confirmed that Cheung was suffering from cancer, and explained that the weight and hair loss were the effects of his cancer treatment.
"I do not know how to explain which type of cancer it was. He (Tat Ming) is fine now and has recovered." Wong said, then continued, "These are side effects of chemotherapy. A person who is ill will be thin. He found a doctor and has recovered completely. He is fine. There is no need for everyone to worry."
Cheung later confirmed his illness in a text message to reporters, who unsuccessfully tried to question him at his house, and said that he is currently focused on recovering.
"Thank you for your concern. Since I need to rest, I can't discuss this any further. I am sick, but I'm also recovering. I am confident that I will get better. Thanks." he wrote.
