Chow Yun-fat is the box office king

12 Feb – Hong Kong film star Chow Yun-fat proves himself a box office giant with two of his movies, "The Monkey King" and "From Vegas to Macau" becoming a huge hit despite being released simultaneously for the Lunar New Year.

According to BBC News, with the success of "The Monkey King" in the Mainland box office with more than RMB 719 million and "From Vegas to Macau" with RMB 237 million and counting, the total of the two Chow Yun-fat-starrers has almost reached RMB 1 billion!

HK Top Ten reported that when asked about the two movies' performances, Chow enthused, "At my old age, I would have never guessed that I would be able to have such a good performance!"

"I am just happy that despite the two movies competing against each other, people still gave their support to me and watched them," he added.

However, Chow said that the success of "The Monkey King" can't all be credited to him, saying, "It mainly belongs to Donnie Yen, the audience's expectation for a 3D movie, and the confidence with the Hollywood production team."

Meanwhile, when asked about the success of "From Vegas to Macau", Chow stated that he was at first uncertain about the movie's ability to break RMB 300 million, since the reality show-turned-movie, "Dad, Where Are We Going?" had a better start.

"I didn't know that the movie would be able to hold on this long. Thank you everyone," said Chow, who joked that all his profit shares will only go into his wife's pocket.
