"Drug War" nominated for "Best Film"

17 Nov – It was revealed that Johnnie To's gangster film, "Drug War", will be one of the movies that will be competing in the International Rome Film Festival's "Best Picture" category this year.

As reported on Popular Asians, on 11 November, the movie was announced to be one of the surprise films out of the 15 movies to compete in the festival, alongside Feng Xiaogang's "Back to 1942".

With star-studded cast that include Louis Koo, Sung Honglei and Wallace Chung, "Drug War" revolves around police captain Zhang (Sun Honglei) and his team's attempt to bust a major cocaine ring in mainland China with the help of drug lord, Tommy Choi (Louis Koo). However, Zhang eventually grows suspicious and paranoid about Choi double crossing him.

"Drug War" is also Johnnie To's first gangster movie to be set in mainland China after 30 years.
