Eason & Joey dominate Metro Hits Awards

1 Jan – Hong Kong Cantopop singers Eason Chan and Joey Yung came victorious at the 2012 Metro Radio Hits Music Awards, winning four big awards each.

Groove Asia reported that on 27 December, singers Eason Chan and Joey Yung both carried home four big awards each, with the latter having received the Top Song, Top Mandarin Song, Most Played Song, and Singer of the World awards. However, Joey was seen being slightly moody, to the extent of disappearing during the presentation.

Meanwhile, following TVB's tradition, Metro enforced a new rule for this year's awards presentation, where there would be no awards for absent singers. Singers who did not attend the presentation and lost their chances for the awards included Miriam Yeung, Denise Ho, Hacken Lee and Leo Ku.

However, Ngok Mei, who was also absent from the event was exempted from the rule and won the Top Mandarin Song award after explaining that she had a fever and could not board her flight to Hong Kong.
