Eddie Lau: Anita Mui is the epitome of love and honour

21 Jul – Celebrated fashion designer Eddie Lau cannot hold back his tears as he talked about his favourite client, the late Hong Kong diva, Anita Mui.

As reported on Metro HK, at the opening ceremony of his fashion exhibition recently, Eddie expressed, "I met Anita on 18 July 1982 at the New Talent contest and we have been collaborating ever since. We shocked many with our style in the 80s. Over the years, Anita Mui was the only artiste that I styled for. I only make stage costumes for others."

In regards to the fact that there will be no memorial concert held for Anita Mui, like it was done for Leslie Cheung and Lydia Shum despite 2013 being the 10th anniversary of her passing, Eddie said, "I have no regrets about that. No one could ever sing like her."

"Anita was the epitome of love and honour. People can dislike her but no one can question her character. Many people asked if I was reluctant to leave the performance costumes I made for her with the museum. I wasn't. The person who loved me the most have already left me. I think the museum would be able to care for them better than I could," he explained.
