Family and friends bid farewell to Yao Beina

21 Jan – A memorial service was held yesterday for the late Chinese singer Yao Beina, who passed away on 16 January from breast cancer.

As reported on Mingpao News, family and friends gathered at the Shenzhen City funeral home in the morning of 20 January to bid their farewell, including representatives of her management label, Huayi Brothers, Taiwanese singer Lin Yu-chun, and Chinese songstress Na Ying.

Outside the funeral home, more than a thousand people gathered to send her off to her final journey.

The late singer's father, Yao Feng, revealed that aside from being a very talented artiste and dedicated to her music, Yao was also a kind person who would care for others very much; which was clear through her decision to donate her corneas to two recipients after death.

"I remember she told me, "Dad, I am not afraid to die. But I am worried about you and mum, as well as my fans. What would you do? I feel so bad about it"," said Yao Feng.

Na Ying, who was also Yao's mentor, was in tears as she said her goodbye to the singer.

"I kept listening to her songs, and feel like she is still here," said the singer.
