18 Jul – TVB actor Fred Cheung who recently became a popular Hong Kong star overnight through his performance on TVB's "Voice Of Stars" thanked actor Paul Chun, who told him not to quit showbiz a long time ago, reported HK Channel.

The 29-year-old actor, who surprised many with his rendition of Eason Chan's "Song Of The Era" in the competition recently, shared that he suffered a slump in his career not long ago that nearly made him retire.

"After completing "Forensic Heroes 2" in 2007, I was jobless for nearly six months. During this period, I earned money through filming commercial ads at supermarkets and even thought about working as an English tutor."

He added, "Relatives would ask if I really wanted to keep going pursuing acting and see a future as an artiste. I felt awful. My mum asked me to return to Canada to further my studies and even my martial arts master agreed and advised me to quit. They suggested that I applied to join the law enforcement in Canada, as the job gives great benefits."

However, while he was contemplating his decision, Fred said that it was his "Love Bond" co-star Paul Chun who convinced him to stay in Hong Kong.

"He is the reason why I'm still here today. He played my dad in "Love Bond", and has been taking care of me like I'm a son ever since. He would always share his own experiences and encourage me when I lost confidence," he stated.

Fred continued, "Paul once told me that, if I want to develop well in the entertainment circle, I must learn to know how to wait. If I work hard, one day everything would come much easier. I am very thankful to him. He is my saviour."
