25 Dec – The premiere of the trailer for "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" on YouTube exclusively from Machinima.com on December last year only revealed the crumbs of the candy house that is to follow, which is the newly released trailer for "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" yesterday.
The trailer opens with Channing Tatum and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson trying to break into a highly guarded facility with a brand new never-before-seen weapon, which is pretty much the gist of the rest of the trailer. It showcases more of the special weaponry that will be used, as well as more insight on Bruce Willis' role other than just cracking cholesterol jokes. Unfortunately, Channing Tatum's appearance remains limited as ever.
The sequel's large cast overhaul is credited to the director change. Jon M. Chu of "Step Up 2: The Streets", "Step Up 3D" and "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never" fame will now be sitting in the chair, as opposed to Stephen Sommers, who directed the original.
"G.I. Joe: Retaliation" will feature the G.I. Joe Team coming into a conflict with past enemies Zartan, Storm Shadow and Firefly, who are all serving under the newly released Cobra Commander. Zartan, who is last seen in disguise as the President of the United States, is manipulating the U.S. Government and frames all G.I. Joe operatives as traitors, exterminating most of them and leaving a small group of survivors, captained by Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson). With the odds against them, the Joes make a desperate plan to overthrow Cobra Commander with their secret black operation called the "Second American Revolution", which involves the original G.I. Joe General Joseph Colton (Bruce Willis).
The film is distributed by United International Pictures and will see released in cinemas on 21 June in Malaysia and Singapore.
