5 Oct – The recently announced nominations for Taiwan's 49th Golden Horse Film Awards clearly shows which are the two biggest movies in running to win the highest title – Taiwanese "Gf*Bf" and Chinese controversial film, "Mystery".
Popular Asians website reported that in the nomination announcement made on 2 October, the two movies led the awards with seven nominations each, where both will go head-to-head for the "Best Feature Film", "Best Director", "Best Leading Actress", and the "Best Original Screenplay" categories. Meanwhile, Hong Kong's "Life without Principle" and Chapman To's international award-winning "Vulgaria" earned six and three nominations respectively.
Directed by Yang Ya Che, "Gf*Bf" is a film set amidst thirty years of Taiwan's rapid social change and traces a complex love relationship among three friends (played by Joseph Chang, Gwei Lun Mei and Chang Shu Hao) who discover deception, betrayal and the true value of their friendship. Meanwhile, controversial suspense thriller, "Mystery" discusses China's corruption in the law enforcement and portrayal of its wealthy class is directed by Lou Ye and stars Hao Lei and newcomer Qi Xi among the few.
In related news, Texas' Fantastic Film Festival's newly crowned Best Comedy Actor, Chapman To will be competing against Nick Cheung ("Nightfall"), Sean Lau )"Life without Principle"), Joseph Chang ("Gf*Bf") and Nicholas Tse ("Viral Factor") for Best Actor category.
The 49th Golden Horse Film Awards will be held on Saturday, 24 November in Taipei.
