25 July – Veteran Singaporean comedian and producer Mark Lee announced that the cast and crew of his latest horror piece, "Greedy Ghost", will go for a nude swim if the movie is able to gross over RM5 million at the local box office.
"If "Greedy Ghost" gains RM5 million, we will celebrate by swimming naked. But we won't be doing any nude swimming at the beach, we will do it in a swimming pool instead," Lee joked.
When the 44-year old filmmaker was questioned about the possibility of beating fellow local movie "Ah Beng The Movie: Three Wishes", which had broken Malaysia's box office record by taking in RM7 million earlier this year, he replied, "I have no confidence in breaking that great record. I won't say we can beat them; 'beat' is a tacky word. I would say we can be better than them."
Kang Jing Rong, the Taiwanese comedian and host, is playing the male lead in "Greedy Ghost", and this is the first time that he is featured as the lead role on the big screen.
"I was supposed to play a supporting role in the story. However, director Boris Boo and producer Mark changed their minds. Based on the characteristics of their main character, they are looking for someone who looks poor and pathetic. According to them, I have an 'unlucky' look. So they decided to pick me for the role," said Kang.
Besides Kang, the horror comedy also stars Henry Thia, Malaysian comedian Brendan Yuen and Jessica Liew. It tells the story of three good friends named Lim, Ah Nam and Lao Hui, who are greedy for wealth for different reasons, but nevertheless, lead to them being haunted by ghosts.
"Greedy Ghost" is now showing in Malaysia's cinemas while Singapore's cinemas will only release it on 9 August.
