We were totally bedazzled by the glittering eye make-up looks produced by MAC for Copenhagen Fashion Week AW12.
The MAC make-up team have come over all Ziggy Stardust, gluing multi coloured sequins around the models' eyes, over thick sweeps of glittery eye shadow. After a few seasons of more pared down, classically smoky eye looks, we have a feeling the eye bling is the thing for spring!
Celebs like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Rihanna have been experimenting with dramatic metallic eyes for some time now. But how does this make-up trend translate into Real Life? Realistically, we can’t turn up to work looking like Show Girls (unless of course you are a Show Girl), so are there more subtle ways of working sequin eye make up?
As with many things in life, less is more. Use only one sequin product at a time – so if you’re rocking glued-on rhinestones, leave the shimmering shadow alone.
Try cutting a single sequin in half and sticking one piece to the corners of your eyes with eyelash glue. Or try false eyelashes adorned with gems, like the Shu Uemura Dazzling Black Diamanté lashes (based on the real diamond set they made for Madonna). These uh-mazing purple heart sequin lashes by Shimmer Twins are also an excellent way to tap into the trend.
We’d also recommend minimal make-up for the rest of your face, so go for glossy skin and a nude lip. After all, you wouldn’t accessorise a sequin dress with sequin shoes AND bag. Would you?
