17 Oct – Three-time Singapore Star Award Best Actor Li Nanxing revealed all the incidents that happened in his new drama film "Imperfect" are in reality, daily occurrences, thus the movie can be a great educational tool for parents and teenagers.
Directed by Hong Kong director Steve Cheng and produced by Li himself, "Imperfect" is an inspiring drama that sees Jian Hao, a confused teenager who gets into a fight to protect his best friend Zach, resulting in him being sent to the Boys' Home for punishment. Feeling lost and insecure with his future after his release, Jian Hao further finds himself in a dilemma when he has to choose between continuing his studies and joining the gang with his friends.
"As a teenager, we often found ourselves lost during the period of adolescence. There are times when we have no idea how to move onto the right pathway. Some of us might choose the wrong side, for example, like joining gangsters to protect ourselves when we are young, but we do not know that we have to bear with the consequences that can ruin our entire lives," explained Li.
One of the highlights in the Singaporean production was having Hong Kong Film Award winner Liu Kai Chi play gang leader Guodong, and his performance had impressed the other actors and crew during filming.
"I have nothing to say but to praise Liu Kai Chi's indescribably brilliant acting in our film. The way he portrayed a gang leader had a huge impact on the movie. It's a pleasure to work with such a great actor," said Li, who also starred opposite Liu in the movie.
Besides Li Nanxing and Liu Kai Chi, "Imperfect" also has Taiwanese stars Chiang Tsu-ping and Patrick Lee in it. Lee, who gained fame with his comedic role in the 2010 Taiwanese hit drama series "The Fierce Wife", even has a half-naked scene in the drama.
"That scene is just so unforgettable. I have to take off my clothes in front of the huge crowd in the centre of the market and perform some action stunts. But it was a nice experience, hopefully people will be entertained by that," said Lee, who also starred in "The Fierce Wife Final Episode".
"Imperfect" will be released in cinemas in Malaysia on 18 October.
