Joel Chan is ready for a new beginning

24 Jan – 2013 was a bad year for Joel Chan. After breaking up with casino heiress Florinda Ho, his life went into a downward spiral that nobody thought would get back up again. However, the actor, who will be filming a new TVB comeback series with Kenneth Ma, revealed that he is now ready to turn a new leaf.

As reported on Mingpao, Joel recently sat for an interview to talk about his ups and downs after breaking up with Stanley Ho's daughter in May 2013, and revealed, "When we broke up, I went back to my old residence. A lot of reporters waited for me every day and I couldn't even walk down the street. Luckily, my mother was there to look after me."

Joel revealed that he used the time spent at home to ponder about his life, saying, "I have done a lot of things but did not attempt to deal with my problems. I realised that I became a laughing stock and my family had to bear the consequences too."

However, Joel said that he was able to pick up the pieces and move on, adding, "People rely on the experience of growth, what you gained and what you lost. I could keep on hiding, wearing hats and masks whenever I need to go out, but I can't do that. It was important for me to raise my head up high. I don't need to prove to the world about who I am. I'm the only one who can change my life."

The actor revealed that he began to run as a hobby, going on daily jogs at 5am every day. He also started working at his friend's company for four months, before he was offered to start his career again through a TVB series, which will be directed by Lee Tim Shing.

However, Joel said he regretted the fact that his family had to bear the effect of his problem. He stated, "I feel so sorry for making my parents worried. Others may say that Joel Chan is a negative person, but that doesn't mean that I am that person they say I am. I made mistakes, but I have reflected on my past and have let it go. Now I will only look ahead."
