19 Sep – Hong Kong actor Julian Cheung had to cut his appearance short at a promotional event in China due to the massive gathering of fans that was deemed too dangerous for him and the public.
As reported on Oriental Daily website, the 42-year-old actor, who was scheduled to make an appearance for the promotional event of "Triumph In The Skies II" at a mall in Chengdu, China, was surprised to find that thousands of fans came to see him.
Some came hours before the event, equipped with fan-made posters and light boards, to reserve the best spots to see the actor.
When Julian finally arrived on stage, he had to be accompanied by dozens of bodyguards as fans began to surround him and reached out to shake his hands. Some even took risks with their lives by climbing up the tall stage setup to get a better look.
Concerned with how far fans would go to be near their idol, the organiser decided to end the event earlier than expected. They even provided the actor special escorts to accompany him to the airport when it was reported that some of the fans were planning to follow his car.
However, knowing that his fans were upset that they could only see him for a short period of time, Julian later posted a message on Weibo, saying, "Fans in Chengdu, you are extremely enthusiastic and supportive. I was very excited to be able to meet all of you today and I know that many of you waited for a long time to see me. I hope that I will get another opportunity to meet everyone in Chengdu soon and will be able to sing for all of you! Thank you!"
