Katie Holmes apparently hinted at her divorce plans, revealing she was entering “a new phase” during an interview.
The actress filed legal papers to end her five-year marriage to Tom Cruise last week. A few weeks before this bombshell, Katie was interviewed by Elle magazine. While talking about her future, the 33-year-old star revealed she felt more assertive and in control.
“I feel sexier. I think in my 20s, it’s like you’re trying too hard to figure everything out,” she replied when asked about being in her 30s. “I’m starting to come into my own. It’s like a new phase.”
Katie was also quizzed about her marriage during the interview, which took place in May. She appeared to indicate there was some distance between her and Tom.
“He has been Tom Cruise for 30 years,” she explained, according to New York Post. “I know who I am and where I am and where I want to go, so I want to focus on that.”
Katie was also quick to insist that being in a relationship with the Hollywood legend had not boosted her career.
“If anything, you work a little bit harder when you’re in such visible circumstances,” she added.
The interview is due to be released mid-July in the US.
A source who was present during Katie’s discussion with the publication claims the brunette was hesitant to discuss her husband.
“Katie didn’t speak about Tom in a lovey-dovey way at all. She deflected the Tom questions and brought them around to herself,” the insider told New York Post.
Meanwhile, Katie has denied filing for emergency custody and child support for the couple’s six-year-old daughter Suri.
It was reported yesterday that the star had asked a New York judge for an emergent application – meaning she would come face to face with Tom at a court hearing next month.
However, Katie’s lawyer Jonathan Wolfe has dismissed the claims.
“Other than her action for divorce, the only pending application filed by Ms Holmes remains her request for an anonymous caption,” he told People.
Tom is yet to file legal papers.
