4 Oct – Calling all filmmakers! The Kuala Lumpur 48-hour Film Project is back this year for filmmakers from all over the country to compete with each other to produce the best short film within 48 hours this weekend, from 5 to 7 October, according to New Straits Times.
The event will begin at 9pm on Friday night, with 500 filmmakers to come out with a short piece which includes a character, a prop, a line of dialogue around a genre that will be announced by City Producers, Shahril Fahazmi Musa and Elly Marlina Zainalabiden before the Kuala Lumpur 48-hour Film Project kickstarts.
The movies must be completed by Sunday, 9pm, and they will be screened at a local cinema a week after submission.
The time-based filming competition was formed back in 2010 as a platform for local filmmakers to showcase their creativity and ability to work under pressure and as a team within the tight deadline of 48 hours. Their duties include writing, shooting, editing and scoring for the short film.
"Last year, it was fantastic to see all the hard work from filmmakers and the excitement of everyone in cinema," said Shahril.
Elly added, "To watch the tremendous support in keeping the scene alive and vibrant is what makes us go through it every year."
The winning production will get the opportunity to go up against 118 other Best Films from cities around the world, which includes Berlin, Paris, Hong Kong, New South Wales and so on at Filmapalooza 2013 in Hollywood. Filmapalooza will then choose the top films to be showcased at the Cannes Film Festival's Short Film Corner.
