26 May – AKB48's 26th single titled "Manatsu no Sounds good!" has officially become the idol group's largest selling single since its first day of release.
According to Tokyo Hive, "Manatsu no Sounds good!" sold 1,171,000 copies on its first day, thereby charting on the top of the Oricon Daily Singles ranking for 22 May.
This marks AKB48's third million-breaking single on its first day, followed by their previous single "Kaze wa Fuiteiru", which sold 1,046,000 copies in October 2011 and "Flying Get!" with 1,026,000 copies.
One of the reasons for the good CD sales can be credited to the serial number that came in the "Manatsu no Sounds good!" CD, which fans can use to vote for their favourite member in the Senbatsu general election for the 27th single.
On that note, member Oshima Yuko is currently taking the lead in the preliminary results of the Senbatsu general election. Oshima is holding the top spot with 15,093 votes, automatically securing her place in AKB48's next single, which is miles ahead from fellow contender Kashiwagi Yuki only has 12,654 votes.
Kashiwagi, who was third in the last general election, is followed by Watanabe Mayu with 11,329 votes, Sashihara Rino at 9,337 votes and Takahashi Minami with 8,995 votes.
Voting of the 4th Senbatsu general election will end on 5 June.
