Newton Lai's memorial service

3 Jul – The service for veteran actor (Newton) Lai Han Chi was recently held at the Po Fook Memorial Hall in Sha Tin, with family and close friends reminiscing about his life.

As reported on HK Top Ten, the memorial service was also attended by godmother Zeng Dirong (late actor Kwan Hoi San's wife), as well as friends in the likes of veteran actresses Nina Paw, Susan Shaw and Wong Ha Wai.

Zeng Dirong expressed her regrets hearing about Lai's death on television, saying, "Lai Han Chi was very filial. When Kwan Hoi San died, he came to his funeral to mourn as well. I am heartbroken to only learn about his passing through the media."

Meanwhile, Nina Paw revealed, "Lai Han Chi was a classmate of mine when we were in Hueng To Middle School. He was friendly and was known for his good looks as he is tall, handsome and an avid basketball player. All the girls loved him."

Lai started his acting career with a series of martial art films produced by Feng Huang Motion Picture Corp in 1978. He ventured into the television industry by signing a deal with the now-defunct Rediffusion Hong Kong in 1980 and shot his first drama, "The Legendary Fok" with TVB actress Michelle Yim in 1981.

His last movie, before his passing on 13 June due to acute pneumonia, was "Tales of the Dark 2". He was 62-years-old.
