28 Sep –Presenting elements that are contradicting with a particular religion belief is always a risky thing in our country and it's no exception for filmmakers too, as Bollywood film "Oh My God" which was supposed to be released today, is officially banned by the Malaysian Censorship Board citing 'sensitive religious elements' as the cause.
Based on a 2001 Australian comedy "The Man Who Sued God", "Oh My God" tells the story of a shopkeeper named Kanjibhai who blames God for causing his shop to be destroyed by a tornado. The man then shows his wrath by fighting all the priests in the town, just to take Him down.
The movie that stars National Film Award winner Paresh Rawal and action star Akshay Kumar, have been receiving positive feedback from international movie critics but unfortunately, it has been confirmed to be banned by the Malaysian film censorship board on its day of release due to sensitive and controversial religious aspects existing within the movie.
No stranger to strict censorship, Malaysian cinema has seen to "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", "Halloween 2" to name a few, banned due to sensitive content. Also not forgetting "Daredevil" back in 2003 starring Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner which was infamously banned due to it being deemed to be in favour of the Devil.
