The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) has announced that it is going to felicitate veteran director Ramesh Sippy and the recently turned centenarian Zohra Sehgal for their contribution to 100 years of Indian Cinema. The IIFA weeked is going to be held in Singapore from June 7 to June 9.
Sippy made his debut in Hindi films at the age of 9, playing Achala Sachdev's son in Shahenshah. He is best known for directing, arguably the best Hindi film of all time, Sholay.
Sippy was quoted saying, "The International Indian Film Academy is a massive pioneering effort to expand the reach of Indian Cinema, taking it beyond Indian shores. To be recognized on an international platform is an honour. I would like to thank IIFA for giving me this wonderful mark of appreciation. I am truly honoured that my work has been recognized."
Zohra Sehgal, who recently turned 100 years old, is also going to be lauded at the awards ceremony. The acclaimed dancer and actress has been the recipient of the Padma Vibhusan and had a fruitful career in theatre, film and dance. She will receive the special award, 'Contribution to 100 years of Indian Cinema'.
