Sergio Ramos' mother has admitted that she did not want her son to take a penalty in the Euro 2012 semi-final against Portugal.
The Real Madrid defender scored his spot-kick for Spain in extravagant fashion, with a delicate chip down the middle of the goal, but made his parent nervous watching from the stands.
“I know Sergio and I knew he would take one. I said to myself: 'What is this boy doing?' I didn't want him to take one,” Paqui Ramos told Cadena SER.
The Spanish radio station also interviewed the mothers of fellow La Roja stars David Silva, Andres Iniesta and Iker Casillas regarding their feelings about the tournament in Ukraine and Poland.
"I went outside with my daughter [during the penalty shoot-out] and only found out on WhatsApp,” Casillas’ mother Carmen admitted.
"People always talk about him as a person. When I look at photos he's always at the side, never in the centre. I'm very proud,” said Silva’s mother Eva.
"It's the first time I have spoken with so many microphones around,” Iniesta’s mother Mari concluded.
The quartet are expected to start for Spain against Italy in the Euro 2012 final against Italy on Sunday.
