Sandy Lam wins GMA with comeback album

8 Jul – Despite her absence from the event, Hong Kong singer Sandy Lam won the most awards at the 24th Golden Melody awards.

As reported on Straits Times, at the star-studded event that was held at the Taipei Arena on 6 July, Sandy won Best Mandarin Album, Best Female Singer and Best Album Producer for her comeback after a six-year hiatus from the music scene, beating other competition that include Jolin Tsai's "MUSE" and Jay Chou's "Opus 12".

The awards were received on her behalf by her representatives Chen Ailing and Shilei Chang, who co-produced her album, "Gaia". Chang read a thank-you note that was written by the singer, who apologised for her absence, although she did not explain why.

Meanwhile, Jolin Tsai's most personal song to date, "The Artist" emerged triumphant as Best Song of the Year, beating Kay Huang's "After Taste" and Sandy Lam's "Speechless Song".
