4 Oct – Unconventional, raunchy and undeniably fresh: That is how one would usually describe Seth MacFarlane's type of humour, a name that was previously associated with the "Family Guy" before he gained worldwide attention with his directorial debut "Ted". Now, MacFarlane has been selected to host the upcoming 85th Academy Awards, on Sunday, 24 February 2013.
The news went out last Tuesday during TheWrap.com's third annual media leadership conference in West Hollywood, where MacFarlene made his widespread announcement to the press. In an interview with TheWrap.com's CEO and founder, Sharon Waxman, MacFarlane revealed that he was less terrified about playing host for the Oscars than directing "Ted" itself.
""Ted" scared the s–t out of me. I had never done a movie before. Suddenly I was afraid again of what I was doing," said MacFarlane.
He went on to add, "Strangely, I think directing a movie was more terrifying than the Oscars."
The 38-year-old creator, writer and voice actor for popular Fox comedies such as "American Dad!" and "The Cleveland Show", however, could not hide his excitement any longer upon stating the selection to be an overwhelming privilege.
"My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don't find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast."
As talented as he is, the selection was said to be a bold choice and has raised the anxieties of some, due to the fact that MacFarlane is not an on-camera performer. The Academy Awards is also known to be quite traditional, which would be tough for the recent SNL host to retreat to his "Family Guy" antics.
