29 May – Hong Kong actress Sonija Kwok has embraced motherhood as she delivered a baby girl via Caesarean section on 22 May.
According to Jayne Stars, Kwok's husband, Chinese action-choreographer Zhu Shaojie, was at the delivery room to welcome his newborn daughter, who weighs approximately 2.7 kilogrammes, by cutting her umbilical cord.
"The baby's eyes resemble daddy, but her nose, mouth and hands resemble my features." 37-year-old Kwok said, adding that the baby also shared some of her British heritage.
The yet-to-be-named girl, whom the parents have taken to call their 'little angel' was delivered two weeks prior to Kwok's due date after she was advised by doctors to go through the Caesarean section due to positioning of the baby.
"The date of the Caesarean section was recommended by the doctor. It's a good thing, since my belly was huge. Since becoming pregnant, my weight has increased to 160 pounds!" Kwok said.
Kwok remarked how calm Zhu was during the delivery.
"He was pretending to be calm. Afterward, he told me that his heart nearly jumped out. I received anesthesia, so I was not entirely coherent," the 1999 Miss Hong Kong winner said, adding that she cried tears of joy to receive the fruit of their marriage a year ago.
Both mother and child are reported to be well with Kwok being discharged from the hospital and is currently recovering from the Cesarean Section, while Zhu has taken leave from work to accompany his wife and child.
"We will try our best efforts to care for our little angel, allowing her to grow up healthily and happily! Thank you God!" Kwok declared on her Weibo blog to respond to the well wishes she received from family and friends.
