Steven Ma reminisces of his mother

17 Jul – A moment in his performance turned emotional for singer-actor Steven Ma when speaking of his late mother, in a concert that was held last weekend.

Mingpao website reported that at his Music Sharing Concert that was held on 13 to 14 July at the Kowloonbay International Trade and Exhibition Centre (KINTEC), the actor was teary-eyed while reminiscing about his mother, urging audiences to be more pro-active in caring for their parents while they are still alive.

The actor, whose mother passed away in 1999 due to nasopharyngeal carcinoma, shared his experiences during the final moments of his mother's life, and stated that she was his role model and a source of strength for him.

He also wrote a song for her in his new album, titled "For Mother: Weary", saying, "She was a fan of Deanie Ip's song "Weary". Although she lost her hearing ability during the final days of her life, she continued to play the song until her final moments."

Speaking at the post-concert interview, Steven recalled, "My father was in the audience and I tried so hard to avoid his gaze while on stage. I didn't want to break down and affect the performance."

Steven sang some of his songs from his latest gospel album, "Cherish" at the event, held to raise funds for the Christian gospel group, The Bridge Music Ministry (TBM). Many celebrity friends were also in attendance, including TVB executive Catherine Tsang, director Leung Choi Yuen, and actress Helen Ma.
