Mnet′s audition program Superstar K4 has topped the ratings charts yet again.
According to AGB Nielsen Media Research on September 22, the September 21 broadcast of Superstar K4 recorded average ratings of 8.9 percent, peaking at 10.2 percent. This record takes the show into its fifth consecutive week at the top of the ratings chart for its time slot.
The day′s episode aired a portion of the rival matches from Super Week. Contestants with similar skills were pit against each other to fight for the ticket to the live tournament portion of the show.
Jung Joon Young and Roy Kim sang the late Kim Kwang Suk′s Becoming Dust. They incorporated some rock into the song, and drew amazement from viewers and the judges with their perfect harmony and guitar sequences.
Psy said, "It′s like you two have become different people. You were like real singers. Everything from the song, the rearrangement, your eyes, your expressions and gestures, everything was great."
Lee Seung Chul also added, "I can′t make a decision on this because you were both so good. I′ll have to push back this decision," postponing his judgment for the first time ever on the show.
The rival match between Yoo Seung Woo and Kim Jung Hwan also drew much attention. Although Yoo Seung Woo is known for his skills, he failed to take care of his condition and was unable to sing to his full potential. This moment was when the viewership ratings peaked the highest.
Producer Kim Tae Eun of Superstar K4 said, "Another good thing about Superstar K4 is that it brings together the generation that used to enjoy Becoming Dust when it was released with those who just learned of this song through yesterday′s broadcast. Mnet will continue to serve its role as a music channel and bring the spotlight to other legendary singers like the late Kim Kwang Seok and dig up new superstars in the process."
The list of matches between the 42 teams who made it through the collaboration mission was aired during the day′s broadcast. The 42 teams will continue to compete against each other, and the 10 teams that make it through will perform live in the finals.
