Tang Wei is obsessed with her new character

<17 Apr – Chinese actress Tang Wei admitted that she was completely obsessed with the character Xiao Hung after reading the script of "The Golden Era".

As reported on Mingpao, the actress who made an appearance at the press conference of the new movie in Beijing recently, disclosed, "My manager told me about a script that was hidden from me. He said that if I read it, I wouldn't want to do anything else."

"My manager was absolutely right," said Tang Wei. "After reading it and discussing it with [director] Ann Hui, I was completely obsessed with the character."

When asked what lured her in, Tang Wei said that though the novelist had a short life, it was filled with endless charm.

Tang Wei also praised Ann Hui for her attention to details, saying, "In order to help the actors get into character, Ann nit-picked every detail with the designer. For example, even to just film a simple corridor scene, I had to try several different lipstick colours."

"The Golden Era" chronicles the life of 1930s female writer, Xiao Hung, dubbed one of the most important female writers in contemporary China, and her relationship with her partner and newspaper editor, Xiao Jun.
