Viann Zhang denies reconciliation rumours

19 Jan – Mainland actress Viann Zhang, who had announced her breakup with Li Chen last year, has denied rumours of their reconciliation.

As reported on Sina's Daily News, while speaking to the media at the press conference of her new drama, "The Investiture of the Gods" in Beijing recently, the actress stressed that the two of them are not getting back together.

"The rumours were not true. I am single and enjoying my career right now," she said.

When asked about the reports saying that she was full of praises for Li Chen and recommended the actor to star as the Emperor Kangzi to producer, Yu Zheng, Viann said, "I recommended a lot of actors to Yu Zheng. I thought he [Li Chen] looked like Kangxi, that's all. But it had nothing to do with our current status."

Meanwhile, the actress will be playing Daji, a beloved concubine of the Shang Dynasty's last king as well as an evil fox spirit, Hu Xin'er.

In regards to her dual role, Viann said, "I do feel a lot of pressure as I grew up watching Fu Yiwei's version of Daji in the 1990 drama. But I am not afraid of criticisms."

"The Investiture of the Gods", which is loosely based on the classical Chinese novel of the same name, also stars Sammul Chan as military strategist who helps overthrow the Shang Dynasty.
