"The White Storm" exceeds expectations

3 Dec – It was revealed that the Nick Cheung, Sean Lau and Louis Koo film, "The White Storm" (previously known as "Cartel War") had succeeded to rake in RMB 80 million (approx. USD 13.1 million) at the box office.

According to Sina's website, the movie, directed by Benny Chan of "New Police Story" fame, made a tremendous achievement in its opening weekend since the release on 29 November in China, even surpassing Sandra Bullock's "Gravity" while competing against Hollywood blockbusters such as "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" and "Epic".

When asked to comment about the movie's success, director Benny Chan expressed that he was at first worried as "The White Storm" was the first movie to be released during the holiday season.

"Luckily, it did not disappoint us and achieved such good results at the box office. A lot of people have expressed their support and said they liked the movie, and it gave us a shot of confidence," said Benny.

Meanwhile, its leading men, Sean Lau, Louis Koo and Nick Cheung expressed their enthusiasm with the box office results.

Sean enthused, "The White Storm has left a beautiful mark in 2013 for me. I hope that the box office sales will continue to soar!" And even Nick, who celebrated his birthday on 2 December, exclaimed, "I feel so overjoyed on my birthday!"
