A few weeks ago, it had been reported that Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, who had written the 1973 blockbuster Zanjeer were not too pleased at the idea of a remake of the film and had also gone to the extent of threatening to take action against such a project.
However, now it seems that the veteran duo have given their blessings to the remake, if producer Amit Mehra is to be believed. Mehra, the son of Prakash Mehra, who had produced the original flick, confirmed the news and was quoted to have said, "We have bought the rights of Zanjeer from my father Prakash Mehra's production company. I have also met both Khan and Akhtar to seek their blessings. I am meeting them again and hopefully, everything will be fun. Salim uncle gave me his blessings."
The remake of Zanjeer, which will be directed by Apoorva Lakhia, stars Ram Charan Teja as Vijay Khanna, the character originally played by Amitabh Bachchan, whereas Arjun Rampal will play the character of Sher Khan, which was essayed by Pran. Moreover, Priyanka Chopra has been signed to play the female lead while Prakash Raj will be playing the antagonist Teja.
