Zhang Ziyi takes legal action against prostitution reports

9 Oct – It was revealed that Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi is in the process to take legal action against a US-based Chinese online news outlet over the latter's heinous claims about her.

According to Asian Bite website, her legal representative, attorney Adam LeBerthon stated that Zhang is suing for libel after the North Carolina-based outlet reported that that she was "a prostitute who had sex with former top official Bo Xilai", among others.

LeBerthon added, "At the heart of all of the claims are a series of libellous defamatory statements printed about Zhang Ziyi. The outlet printed repeatedly that Zhang Ziyi is a prostitute, and that's the heart of our allegations. She does not know him, has not met him and has nothing whatsoever to do with him."

The next court hearing in the case is scheduled for 16 October and 16 November but no trial date has yet been set. However, Zhang Ziyi will be unlikely to attend the pre-trial hearings.

Back in June, the actress launched legal action against Hong Kong's leading newspaper the Apple Daily and its sister weekly, Next Magazine over similar reports.
