5 reasons "TFIOS" is more than 'Okay'
Since the North American 6 June release of "The Fault In Our Stars" has been making positive headlines in the U.S., it's no wonder that this well-received romantic tearjerker has already become one of the must-see movies of 2014.
We've seen it and it's true that "The Fault In Our Stars" delivers its promise. Before the movie finally hits cinemas in Malaysia this 17 July (released in Singapore on 19 June) here's our 5 top reasons why "The Fault In Our Stars" is the romance film to end all romance films:
1. The ensemble cast is pitch-perfect
Much of the success in "The Fault In Our Stars" owes it to the top-notch cast that made the movie such a rewarding cinematic experience. Shailene Woodley, who has proven her acting chops via 2011's "The Descendants", 2013's "The Spectacular Now" and this year's "Divergent", shines again in another praiseworthy performance as the cancer-stricken Hazel. Then there's the impossibly handsome co-star, Ansel Elgort, who delivers a wonderfully charismatic performance as Augustus. Both of them also display great chemistry as romantic couple considering they played brother and sister in "Divergent"!
Rounding up the excellent cast is Nat Wolff's funny presence as Augustus' best friend, Isaac; Laura Dern and Sam Trammell's heartfelt portrayal as Hazel's emotionally-strong parents; and of course, Willem Dafoe's perfectly sarcastic performance as the reclusive author Peter Van Houten.
2. Soundtrack makes you fall in love with the movie even more
The soundtrack often plays an important role in a movie and even more so for one of a tearjerker category. "The Fault In Our Stars" soundtrack is certainly a successful composition, with a wealth of great music and song nuggets including an impressive score from Mike Mogis and Nate Walcott of American indie band, Bright Eyes (both of them previously collaborated with director Josh Boone in 2012's "Stuck In Love"); Ed Sheeran's genuinely moving ballad "All Of The Stars"; French band M83's (who previously did a great job composing the Tom Cruise-starrer "Oblivion" in 2013) remarkably poignant "Wait"; and of course, Charli XCX's catchy pop song "Boom Clap".

3. Lots of love at the U.S. box office
Who could have imagined that a US$12 million-budgeted romantic drama released in the midst of the crowded summer-movie season ended up beating the Angelina Jolie-starrer "Maleficent" and the Tom Cruise-led "Edge Of Tomorrow" for the No.1 spot at the U.S. box office? And it's not just a mere No.1 spot, but a better-than-expected opening gross of US$48 million that surpassed the industry expectations.
No doubt this is the second time in the row that Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, who both previously appeared in the recent moneymaking hit of "Divergent", proved to be box-office draw after all.
4. A movie to give you a good cry
Many people who have seen "The Fault In Our Stars" earlier in the U.S. and Singapore claimed that they ended up crying because of the heartbreaking romance between Hazel (Shailene Woodley) and Augustus (Ansel Elgort). So don't be surprised if the cinema hall is filled with weepy audiences or you might even find yourself or perhaps your friend/partner sitting beside you shedding tears.
That means apart from your usual checklist of popcorn and soft drink purchase, it's also advisable to bring along a pack of tissues. Suffice to say, a tearjerker that more or less can make you a cry has clearly proven that "The Fault In Our Stars" is such an emotionally-penetrating movie. 5. "Paper Towns" and "Looking For Alaska" heading to the big screen!
With the groundbreaking success of "The Fault In Our Stars", it comes to no surprise that the studio (Fox 2000 Pictures) is already gearing up for another John Green novel-to-big screen adaptation. The novel in question is "Paper Towns", which will again reunite "The Fault In Our Stars" screenwriting duo Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber as well as supporting actor Nat Wolff playing the leading role this time around!
This just in, Green's debut novel "Looking For Alaska" has been tapped by Paramount Pictures for a movie adaptation too, with filmmaker Sarah Polley tapped to direct!
