Beauty myths that need to die

Brushing your hair 100 times daily will give you lustrous hair; eating chocolate will lead to break outs, have you heard these? Now find out if they are true or not.

Beauty myths busted!

Beauty myth #1: Brushing your hair 100 times daily will give you soft, shiny hair.

This is absolutely untrue. Over brushing will only cause damage to your hair. It has the potential to damage your hair follicles, leading to more hair fall. What you should be doing is brushing your hair until you remove the knots. If you want more shine and softer hair, use a leave on conditioner or hair serum.

Beauty myth #2: Shaving will make your hair grow back thicker and darker

Shaving does not make your hair grow back thicker and darker. The fact is it grows back shorter, and hence one tends to think it grows back thicker. And it definitely doesn’t change the colour of the hair.

Beauty myth #3: Waxing will lead to lesser hair growth

Waxing does not diminish hair growth, it only keeps your legs and hands smoother for longer in comparison to shaving.

Beauty myth #4: Wearing nail polish continuously will turn your nails yellow

Nails are porous and thus absorb the pigment of the nail polish. Wearing darker colours are more likely to stain your nails. However, this isn’t irreversible damage as it is made to believe. The best way to avoid discolouration of nails is to use a coat of transparent nail polish and then apply dark colours on top. This prevents pigment absorption, and hence nail discolouration.

Beauty myth #5: Trimming your hair will make your hair grow faster

Your hair grows at its own phase. Trimming regularly, however, can help make your hair look healthier without split ends.

Beauty myth #6: If I pluck one grey hair, 10 grey hair will grow back in its place

This isn’t true at all – what a relief, huh!? However, plucking your hair isn’t a good habit, as it can potentially damage the root.

Beauty myth #7: Leave toothpaste on your pimple overnight for clear skin

The ingredients in a toothpaste dry your skin out. While it may temporarily help dry out that pimple on your face, it can potentially irritate your skin, causing more harm.

Beauty myth #8: Split ends can be reversed

Sadly, NO. Once you have split ends the only way to treat it is by getting a good haircut to remove them. However, the use of a good hair serum might help make it less noticeable.

Beauty myth #9: Washing your face often is the best way to treat oily skin

Over-washing your face will only lead to removing essential oils and making your skin dry. This in-turn will stimulate more oil production, leading to acne. Our advice: Wash your face twice a day – once in the morning and once at night. If you suffer from excessive oiliness, use a blotting paper or a thin, soft tissue and dab your face to remove excess oil.

Beauty myth #10: Eating chocolate will make you break out

Nope, eating chocolates does not cause acne. Nonetheless, a healthy diet does play a significant role in the health of your skin. So ‘eat healthy’ if you want clear, glowing skin.
