Donnie Yen in "Ip Man 3D"

12 Apr – It has been over a year since Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen said he would never touch any films related to Ip Man after the release of "Ip Man 2".

Last week however, "Ip Man 3" script writer Edmond Wong revealed that Donnie is in fact reprising as martial arts master Ip Man in "Ip Man 3", according to a report on Jayne Stars.

The quells all prior statements made by the action star in an interview last year where he expressed his concern over spreading the Ip Man story too thin.

"I would never ever touch any films related to Ip Man. This will be my final film (Ip Man 2) on the subject. Whenever something becomes a success, everyone would jump on the bandwagon, this is very frightening. Did you know how many Ip Man films are in production? Under such condition, we would not progress, it'd only lead to over-saturation of the subject matter," Donnie was quoted saying last year.

Since then, "Ip Man" hype has now died down, Donnie has come forth, and "is looking forward" to working on a 3D "Ip Man" film.

Apparently he has entered into preliminary discussions with the film's producer Raymond Wong, though he "had not yet seen the script" said his publicist.

Edmond then went on to reveal that "Ip Man 3" will feature Ip Man's famous student, martial arts legend Bruce Lee to be a huge part in the story, however Ip Man will remain as the main character.

"What is certain is that the film will begin with Bruce Lee becoming Ip Man's disciple. As for who will play Bruce Lee, we will have to do a large-scale casting exercise."

"Ip Man 3" producer Raymond Wong, added that the film will feature fight scenes enhanced with 3D effects and is expected to go into production at the end of the year.
