Eric Tsang criticises TVB for mass layoffs

29 Sep – Hong Kong actor Eric Tsang recently criticised TVB's measure of firing 50 employees despite the company's stable financial condition, as reported on Singtao Daily.

The actor, who wore black in support of the protest held by members of the TVB Staff Association in Tseung Kwan O on 25 September, stated that he missed the era when TVB was under the direction of the late Sir Run Run Shaw.

"I have been with TVB for more than 20 years. It's like a big family to me," said Eric, adding that he is perplexed as to why the company fired 50 staff after hiring over 100 new employees earlier this year.

"You're fired if you got sick, and you're fired if you're retiring next year. Why won't the company just move people to different departments instead?" he asked.

Though Eric believed that the layoffs have nothing to do with the company's financial condition, and said, "If we all grew with each other, this problem would not have occurred. But the executives never grew with their employees."

Asked if he is not worried that his support for the protest would scar his good relationship with TVB, Eric stressed that he is doing it for the betterment of the company.
