Han Lei defeats GEM Tang to be named Vocal King

8 Apr – Despite being one of the favourites at the Hunan TV singing competition, "I Am A Singer 2" since day one, Hong Kong singer GEM Tang was instead defeated by Chinese singer Han Lei in the final round.

According to Oriental Daily, the 46-year-old singer emerged as the winner with 28.31 per cent of the audience votes, defeating GEM who came in second with 24.95 per cent.

Meanwhile, Malaysian singers Shila Amzah and Gary Chaw, who were among the target of angry Chinese Netizens over the missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370, came in third and fourth place respectively.

However, GEM who had experienced a career boost in mainland China since her participation in the singing competition, still received a lot of support from her fans online.

In an online poll on Weibo, the Hong Kong singer received 800,000 votes out of the 2.4 million voters to become the Vocal King of Netizens' choice.
