"The Iceman 3D" keeps mum on box office numbers

21 Apr – Two Hong Kong movies, "That Demon Within" and "The Iceman 3D" recently began its competition at the box office during the Easter weekend, but while the Dante Lam movie showed a good opening record of HKD 1.42 million (approx. USD 183,126), producers for the Donnie Yen film have decided to not release its box office results just yet, Mingpao reported.

"The Iceman 3D" took more than a year of production with an initial HKD 100 million budget that soared up to HKD 200 million.

However, amidst rumours saying that the movie did not do well in theatres, the film company clarified that they have decided to hold the numbers in order to accommodate the Mainland release date.

Speaking to the media recently, the movie executive producer Christopher Sun said, "Since the movie will only be released in mainland China on 25 April and we just held advanced special screenings in Hong Kong, we couldn't report any numbers. This is the common rule of simultaneous release for co-production films."

In regards to its few screening shows, Christopher said, "We didn't want to schedule too many shows. We didn't want our fans from the north watching the movie in Hong Kong and not in the Mainland."

He added that the Hong Kong box office result will only be released together with the mainland record and expressed his full confidence that the movie will be successful.
