Indonesia questions M'sian "Raid 2" ban
3 Apr - An Indonesian Democratic Party leader had questioned the ban made on Indonesian action film sequel "The Raid 2: Berandal" by Malaysian authorities.
Presidential candidate Pramono Edhie Wibowo has called upon the Malaysian government to explain why the Indonesian film could not be screened in the country, reported Bernama.
The reason for the ban stills remains unclear with many Malaysian moviegoers voicing their disappointment for the movie which was supposed to be shown in cinemas here on 27 March 2014.
"It's very frustrating if the Malaysian government does not allow the screening of the film without giving any reason," he said at the Democratic Party convention in Jakarta.
Pramono also said that "The Raid 2: Berandal" is a work of art and it should be appreciated as the rise of the Asean creative industry.
"The Raid 2: Berandal" continues where the first film ends. Rama (Iko Uwais) continues going undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and to uncover the corruption in his own police force.
The film, directed and created by Gareth Evans, won praise from film critics worldwide, especially when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
Making its debut at U.S. last weekend in only seven locations, the film had thus far collected USD165,292. It is expected to open at more locations across the nation this week.
The film also reportedly had the biggest opening day of all time in Indonesia with a recorded 90, 000 movie tickets sold at cinemas in Indonesia.
