"Journey to the West 2011" highly rated
27 Jul - "Journey to the West 2011" had achieved high ratings upon its debut on Mediacorp's Channel 8, despite the fact that it did not perform well during its broadcasting in China last year.
In the year 2011 during the first broadcasting of the drama in China, Chinese Netizens had criticised the drama for using poor CGI effects. Some Netizens even commented that the drama is simply boring and meaningless.
According to Omy.sg, the drama had pulled in a maximum of 74.7k viewers, where the ratings averaged at 62k viewers on Channel 8. It is also considered as one of the high-rated drama of this year.
Meanwhile, Zhang Ji-Zhong (the producer of "Journey") revealed that the investor of the drama had "earned a lot" by selling out the overseas rights for the drama.
"We sold one episode at the price of SGD 60k, that's almost double that of the cost to produce one episode of drama", he revealed during an interview in China and added that a "low cost series with high selling price" is a "win-win situation" in the drama production world.
