"Journey to the West" will be a hit

16 Jan – When other celebrities slammed Stephen Chow for allegedly valuing money over friendship, his former '90s long-time collaborator, screenwriter cum actor Lee Lik Chi revealed that not everything is bad with the actor-turned-director.

As reported on TVB News World website, during a radio interview, the "God of Cookery" co-director was asked about the recent negative publicity surrounding Stephen Chow.

Lee stated that he felt that it was only speculation, and expressed, "Being cheap isn't important, having talent is the most important. He has to be devious to be able to come up with a lot of comedy."

Asked if he was one of Stephen's collaborators who parted ways due to Stephen's attitude, Lee revealed, "Stephen and I didn't part ways with any unpleasantness."

He added, "Stephen wanted to change jobs and become a director, but he didn't need to stop being an actor. However, choosing "CJ7" as his final film, when his career was at its peak, was also a respectable decision."

Lee Lik Chi also shared his views about Stephen's latest directorial effort, "Journey to the West", saying that he believes that the movie will be a hit and predicts that it will be able to surpass Jackie Chan's "CZ12" and the RMB1 billion box office mark.
