Karan Johar: UNGLI is a new territory for Dharma Productions

One still awaits the final cast to be announced for SHUDDHI. However, Karan Johar continues to be a busy man. While his 2 STATES arrives today, there is a release date announced for long pending UNGLI as well. Meanwhile, shooting of his HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIYA would resume soon too.

2 STATES has you and Sajid Nadiadwala collaborating for the first time ever. How has this association turned out to be?

What I like about making a film with Sajid is that everything is in equal capacity here, be it funding or creative collaboration. Sajid is a prolific businessman and has a humungous say in everything. Moreover, he has an opinion on music as well as scenes due to his filmmaking background, which helps a movie. He has been very gracious all through and is a kind and wonderful person to work with.

While you have worked with Anurag Kashyap and Sajid Nadiadwala, there is a film with Ekta Kapoor on the anvil as well. How does that work for Dharma Productions?

Well, I truly believe that co-productions are the way to go forward. As long as the two parties have the same intentions, I am sure this model is only going to grow further.

Then there is another film of yours, UNGLI, which is now looking at a 7th November release. How are things shaping up there?

UNGLI is an altogether new territory for us. It is Dharma's first film with Emraan and has a very different plot from the kind of subjects we have explored in the past. Rensil D'Silva has put his heart and soul into this one. We want to make sure that his good work is presented in the best way possible.
