Kent Tong will not attend memorial anniversary

15 Oct – Hong Kong actor Kent Tong recently revealed that he will not be attending Barbara Yung's 30th anniversary memorial service.

As reported on On CC News, the actor, who was blamed for the actress's suicide back in 1985, said that he would not want to steal the focus from Barbara's family due to their past relationship, and that he prefer to move on and focus on his own family.

"I have thought about Barbara so for so many years, but continuing to do so will be unfair to my wife," he said.

Kent added, "There are so many things that happen in one's life. And while it would be impossible for me to erase what happened in the past, it's also important to focus on what I have right now."

The actor, who is making his comeback through TVB's upcoming series "Lord of Shanghai" alongside Wayne Lai and Anthony Wong, stated that the tragedy has helped him gain a more positive outlook on life.

Kent also dismissed past rumours saying that he left TVB due to the negativity surrounding Barbara's death, saying that the real reason has nothing to do with the tragedy.

Barbara Yung passed away at the age of 26 after she was found unconscious due to gas inhalation in her apartment on Broadcast Drive, Kowloon on the morning of 14 May 1985. Actor Stephen Chow Sai Lung, who last talked to her before the tragedy, stated that Barbara was troubled by her failing relationship with Ken Tong, sparking criticism against the actor for the way he handled his relationship with the "Legend of the Condor Heroes" star.
