Malaysian crowned Mrs. Universe 2013

While we were enjoying our long weekend, a Malaysian was making the country proud thousands of miles away.

Carol Lee made history when she was crowned Mrs. Universe 2013, becoming the first ever Malaysian - the first ever Asian, in fact - to win the beauty pageant held at The Westin Aruba Resort in Palm Beach, the Caribbean last Sunday (11/08/2013).

The 39-year-old defeated 32 hopefuls to win the crown, securing a total of 88,649 votes in the online fan votes contest, narrowly beating Mrs. USA Amanda Grad with a very slim 93 votes.

Carol, a former news presenter and talk show host, was also crowned Mrs. Popularity.

During the pageant - the theme being 'Stop Domestic Violence' - Carol paraded in gowns designed by famed Malaysian designer and Asian Designer of the Year 2009 winner Carven Ong, who also designed Carol's national outfit which featured a giant hibiscus over one shoulder.

Congratulations, Carol! Malaysia is proud of you!
