Mediacorp and CCTV's show receives mixed feedbacks

19 Jul - A concert in collaboration between Singapore's Mediacorp and China's CCTV named "Starry, Starry Night" has made it to the 4th year. However, there are some local viewers urging Mediacorp to cease the concert, Zaobao reported.

Zaobao reported that they had received numerous calls with mixed feedbacks from local viewers upon the broadcasting of the show on Channel 8 last week.

Some viewers commented that the show had good performances except for the cast of singers. "We are not familiar with Chinese singers, so I think it is unnecessary to continue the show in the following years", said one of the viewers to Zaobao.

Vice-president of Mediacorp Branding & Promotions Paul Chan said the show is to enhance the bilateral relations between China and Singapore through cultural exchange.

Meanwhile Mediacorp Chinese Entertainment Productions vice president Goh Djong Hwa told the reporter that the Chinese artistes taking part in the show have high popularity in Mainland China.

"Just because we [Singaporean] don't know them [Chinese singers], doesn't mean they are not good at all. Well, I think not all Chinese citizens know well about our Ah Ge and Ah Jie ("Big Brother" and "Big Sister" in Mandarin) too", he added.
