Peter Jackson lends jet for MH370 search

4 Apr – In light of the tragic circumstances surrounding Malaysian Airlines Flight 370, many celebrities are offering their opinions whenever possible, if not their assistance.

Recently, CBC News got wind that Oscar-winning director Peter Jackson lent his private jet, the Gulfstream G650, which he purchased in 2013, to aid with the international search efforts.

A spokesperson for "The Lord Of The Rings" trilogy filmmaker confirmed that the jet has been chartered and is being operated out of Perth, but declined to comment on whether the director was being compensated for use of his jet or whether he offered its use voluntarily or it was requested of him.

"Peter would not seek publicity for something like this and would actively avoid it in fact," spokesman Matt Dravitzki said.

The jet is reportedly being used to help facilitate communications between the civilian and military aircraft scouring the Indian Ocean for any signs of the missing airliner.

Among the celebrities who have lent their assistance in other international crisis include actor John Travolta, who arranged for several flights carrying rations, medical supplies and medics, to Haiti after the massive earthquake in 2010; and actor Kevin Costner, who pitched in oil-separating centrifuges from his company, Blue Planet Water Solutions, to help the clean-up after the BP Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico.
