Priyanka Chopra to play lead in "Zanjeer"

15 Apr – It's now official that Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra has been selected to play the lead role in Apoorva Lakhia's remake of the 1973 "Zanjeer", according to the Masala website.

Reports have suggested that Priyanka's role would be drastically different from her original character played by Jaya Bachchan.

A source told, "Priyanka will play a woman of today. She will be cast as a US-returned owner of a café. Though she will be dressed glamorously, she won't be doing any songs or item numbers."

Interestingly, rumours are surrounding Priyanka's fees too, citing that she will be paid at the same level with the film's leading man Ram Charan Teja – approximately 6 Crores (SG $1.46 million) for the Telugu and Hindi versions of "Zanjeer".
